Getting to Know You

to know the love of Christ...” Ephesians 3:19

Enjoy reading Ephesians 3:14-21 and Psalm 139

Sometimes it's difficult to understand that an all powerful, all knowing and seeing, awesome creator and God of the universe has a loving interest in the life of a human being. As mind boggling as it may seem, He is interested in and loves you. This is the very essence of God and is the result of faith. He longs to know each person that exists.

God is all about relationships Thousands of years ago when the people (who committed to following Him) said they “would do all that the Lord spoke” (Exodus 19), He gave them what we know today as “the ten commandments”. This list of commands outline the basics of relationships (Exodus 20). The first four give us the basics on relation to God, and the other six give us the basics on relating to each other as human beings. God is concerned about the over-all good of mankind, but experiencing His goodness depends on how we submit to and relate to Him...and each other.

Through thousands of generations, adherence to these commands proved (and still prove) to be a struggle for most people. Unwilling to open their hears and lives to knowing God, they repeatedly fell short of God's commands for healthy relationships. This brought struggles they had never known. In the fullness of time, God performed the ultimate act of getting to know intimately those He had created.

He came to earth in human form (Jesus) so He could fully relate to the human condition. He gave up everything to show us He wants to love us and be loved by us. Of those who had the opportunity to live while God Himself walked this earth, many chose not to believe; not to relate. All people still have the same choice today (John 3:16).

Because of Jesus' sacrifice, God has given His Spirit to us as we walk this earth. When we choose to follow Him, His spirit enters ours, guides us and helps us to relate to Him. We can know the love of Christ and relate to Him as well as we know a parent, a friend or a spouse; and perhaps even better, as Scripture says we have the ability to comprehend the breadth, length, height and depth of God's love (Ephesians 3:18). Once you get to know God, you will never be the same. You will know what your life has been missing.

Here at SonRise Church, we want to get to know you and we want you to know that God loves and cares for you. He knows your name. He knows your story. (Psalm 139) He wants to know you. If you don't know Him, we welcome you to join us and get to know the love of Christ. Get to know the God of heaven and earth along with us.

If you are already a part of His family, we pray that each day you are “filled up with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19).

Articles & Resources for Church Workers

  • Starting a Greeter Program
Four years ago I accepted the challenge of evangelism chairperson for our church. One of the first programs the pastor and I developed was the Sunday morning greeter program.
  • Motivating the Right Person into the Right Ministry
One of the greatest challenges for most leaders is selecting and motivating the right people into the right ministry positions in hopes of minimizing turnover and frustration. Even in the smaller church with limited personnel, it is important to coordinate people and ministry as much as possible.
  • “I TRIED, BUT NO ONE EVER CALLED ME”
“I tried, but no one ever called me” are painful words for a leader who has much work to do and not enough people willing to do it. These words are painful for the person who wanted to contribute, but was never called. These are also painful words for a person who is committed to helping people connect and contribute in meaningful ways within the church.
